Colorado Sheriffs Unite to Fight States Unconstitutional Gun Laws

Colorado Sheriffs Move Forward With Challenge of State Gun Laws

DENVER (CBS4) – A group of sheriffs from different Colorado counties are moving forward with their fight to repeal stricter state gun laws put in place three years ago.

These laws limit the magazine capacity and expand background checks on gun purchases in Colorado.

Sheriffs like Garfield County Sheriff Lou Vallario say they are committed to fighting to protect what they say is citizens’ Second Amendment rights, CBS4 reported.

More than 55 current sheriffs, 25 retired sheriffs, and gun rights groups came together to fight what they have deemed unenforceable gun laws.

“Make no mistake about where I stand in this debate,” Sheriff Cooke says with a voice so clear and resonant he could be a radio host. “The Bill of Rights was written to protect the rights of the individual, not that of the state or the federal government. I am a fervent proponent of the individual’s right to bear arms.” Reported by Frank Miniter NRA Publications.

A district court previously rejected the sheriffs’ claims but they appealed the case to the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals.

This is the kind of fight we need to see from sheriffs all across our country, these laws keep getting ushered forward with absolutely no regard for the innocent victims of the laws; The American People. The laws being fought here are laws that hurt the law abiding citizens and do nothing to put any pressure on the criminals who are responsible for gun violence.

Study after study along with the results of the actual laws ineffectiveness to limit crime in any way after having been passed should be ample evidence that we are not even close to moving in the right direction with gun laws. Look at Chicago, look at New York, measures similar to this are active laws in these cities and they have some of the worst gun violence in the country.

Until we step back as a society and really evaluate the criminals and realistic ways we can target them in order to reduce gun violence we will be doing nothing more than infringing on the American people’s ability to defend themselves.
